Nasionalisme merupakan jiwa bangsa Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, upacara bendera menjadi kegiatan yang sangat penting untuk dilakukan sebagai pembentukan karakter siswa, serta memperkuat persatuan serta kesatuan bangsa, dan juga Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI). Membiasakan siswa sejak dini untuk selalu bersikap tertib serta disiplin. Meningkatkan kemampuan leadership atau kepemimpinan para siswa.
